12 years a slave makes history once again
Academy Award nominee, 12 Years A Slave, is making history again as it becomes part of teachers lesson plans. The movie is to be taught in public high schools. The announcement was made by the National School Boards Association.
The movie is going to be played in all high schools as they partnered up with New Regency, Penguin Books and the film’s producers. School districts will decide if they incorporate it in their criteria. Former TV show host, Montell Williams, is going to be funding the film distribution.
Here is what the film’s director Steve McQueen said about the film getting played in school:
“Since first reading ’12 Years a Slave’ it has been my dream that this book be taught in schools”
This is one film that should be taught in schools and that high school is the perfect audience to reach.
