FBI Assistant Director, Ronald Hosko announced on Monday, the rescue of 105 sex-trafficking victims. The youngest child to be rescued was 9 years old.
The rescues were the product of Operation Cross Country, a three-day nationwide initiative to aid victims of underage prostitution. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and the Department of Justice partnered with Operation Cross Country and the Innocence Lost National Initiative program created by the FBI, all banded together to fight child sex trafficking in the United States.
Since 2003, The Innocence Lost National Initiative has rescued of more than 2,700 children. Many of the children rescued were from broken homes and the crackdown swept across 70 cities from San Francisco to Miami. This was the FBI’s largest action to date recovering sexually exploited children.
An overwhelming amount of the victims saved were girls.
Charges against the pimps arrested include human trafficking.
An estimated amount of 240,000 children in the United States are considered at risk of sexual exploitation.
