2 chainz 2014

Third time’s a charm, right?

2 Chainz re-burst on to the music scene as a solo artist in 2012, and despite early opinions of the Atlanta veteran, he’s certainly here to stay. His first album, Based On A T.R.U. Story, debuted at #1 on Billboard, was awarded a gold plaque shortly after–thanks in large part to his hit singles, “No Lie” and “Birthday Song”–and even garnered the artist formerly known as Tity Boi a Grammy nomination. The sequel to his solo debut, B.O.A.T.S II: Me Time, despite being a better album by popular opinion, failed to achieve the same commercial success its predecessor did, selling a meek 63,000 copies in its first week, and neither of its official singles (“Feds Watching”, “Netflix”, “Used 2″) effectively impacted the charts.

Still, 2 Chainz is still one of the biggest rap stars we have in this game today, so him tweeting about working on his new album is, of course, good news. With two well-received LPs under his belt, and a slew of continual hits in rotation on the airwaves, get ready for a third straight T.R.U. year.
