Soul Train Awards

The 2013 Soul Train Award nominees are in, and Kendrick Lamar earned himself six nominations.

The 26th annual award show that’s got the most soul will air on December 1st on BET and Centric TV with special host, funnyman Anthony Anderson. The awards will be presented on November 8th at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.

Kendrick Lamar is up for the most awards this year contending for a total of six. The categories under which he’s been selected are Best New Artist – for which he’s the only rapping nominee – Album of the Year (alongside both the Legends of the Summer), Best Collaboration for assisting Miguel with “How Many Drinks,” along with Best Hip Hop Song of the Year, Best Song of the Year and Video of the Year for “Poetic Justice” featuring Drake.

While he shares the nomination for Best Hip Hop Song of the Year with Drizzy, Kendrick’s also up against him for his hit solo record “Started From The Bottom.“

Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown, Tamar Braxton, Miguel and Robin Thicke all received the second highest number of nominations, being up for five awards each.

Jay Z and Kendrick are the two rappers nominated for Album of The Year – for Magna Carta Holy Grail and good kid m.A.A.d.city respectively. In the Song of The Year category, rappers appear on three of the six nominated titles, namely Robin Thicke‘s “Blurred Lines” featuring Pharrell & T.I., Jay Z and JT‘s “Suit & Tie,” and “Poetic Justice.”

J. Cole also received a nomination for The Ashford and Simpson Songwriter’s Award for his “Crooked Smile” featuring TLC. He’s the only rapper up for that award.
