On November 14 2014, BET announced to the world that they would be cancelling their highest rated show, 106 & Park, after 14 long years. The decision came as a surprise and disappointment to most but a step in the right direction in the eyes of the network who want to focus on more online programming. 106 & Park was famous for its classic interviews, video premieres, engaging hosts and of course having the livest studio audience out of any countdown variety show in the country. Not to mention the actual countdown itself that helped propel some artists’ careers to the next level. The show was a true staple in hip-hop culture and will forever be known as a place where our culture thrived on live TV. In celebration of 106 & Park’s 14 year run, we have put together a few of the show’s most memorable moments throughout the years. Enjoy! Arnold Schwarzenegger Does The ‘Nae Nae’ and ‘The Stanky Leg’ 106 & Park was famous for its guest appearances and entertaining interviews. Most of the show’s guest were hip-hop artists or important figures in our culture but every once and a while they would throw in a curveball. The terminator himself graced 106 & Park with some interesting dance moves this past March. Accompanied by actor Joe Manganiello, Arnold had no holds barred when hitting the ‘nae nae’ and the ‘stanky leg’. Sure, he was a little stiff, but he got the hang of them pretty quick. Check the video below and see for yourself.read more

Not too long ago, we reported on NYPD officers being investigated for “flaking” or planting drugs on innocent people in hopes of meeting their arrest quotas. Six NYPD officers are currently being investigated for a similar practice, but the drugs are replaced with guns. These officers allegedly planted guns on innocent people to charge them with illegal weapons possession. Brooklyn District attorney announced the investigation following prosecutors being forced to drop a gun case involving a man arrested with a gun in his Brooklyn apartment. Last year, 53-year-old Jeffery Herring (the defendant in the aforementioned case), was arrested by NYPD officers from the 67th Precinct in East Flatbush. The officers said they made the arrest based on information given by a confidential informant. Herring matched the description and a gun was, indeed, found at his location. However, the gun found, was in a plastic bag with none of Herring’s fingerprints on them. After police were unable to bring any informant to court (on judge’s orders), the charges were dropped. Herring, who was facing 15 years in prison and had been pleading his innocence for more than a year and a half, told the NY Daily News, “I dreamed of this day. I knew I didn’t do anything.” The DA’s investigation isn’t going to stop with Herring’s case. There are five other similar cases in which people were charged with weapons possession and the details are sketchy. The NYPD just can’t seem to keep itself out of hot water. Time will tell what will come of this investigation. [RT]

“Fourteen years I’ve been on the bench, I have never seen a case come as close as bad as this one has been in terms of acts of sexual abuse. The court can’t … understand why you did all of this action.” These were the words of Judge Jody Bishop before sentencing Wendy Wood Holland to 219 years in prison for running an incestuous sex ring spanning three generations. Holland was convicted by a jury on charges of sodomy, sexual torture, and sex abuse to a child under age 12. It is reported that sex crimes occurred in homes in Stockton, Fairhope, Mobile and a hotel in Saraland. Also charged was family friend, William “Billy” Brownlee, 50. He received the 20 year maximum sentence of 20 years for sodomy. Both were convicted separately by Baldwin juries for sex crimes last year. Dustin Kent and Randal Scott Wood, two other participants in the sex ring, are scheduled to stand trial in February. It is reported that the defendants may have been victims of sexual abuse when they were children themselves more than 30 years ago, but Judge Bishop doesn’t feel that the maximum punishments they received aren’t enough for the sex ring. Bishop said, “The court finds, based on what I heard during this trial, that these acts you were involved with were depraved, disgusting and sickening to this court and will forever alter the life of this young victim. The punishment I hand down today is one that should be imposed. I believe the range is not enough.” [AL.COM]

There are all types of weapons on the streets. Americans obtain firearms and other means of protection and stockpile them in case anybody wants to run up. The residents of New York City are no different and with so many people, you can believe there are a plethora of guns on the streets. Police in Brooklyn made a startling discovery after being tipped off by someone they arrested on gun charges in the Bronx. In Bushwick the police found a rocket launcher in a home. Residents can’t believe that a weapon as powerful as a rocket launcher was found on Knickerbocker Ave.. The M72 LAW (a rocket launcher from the 1960’s) belonged to 41-year-old Juan Garcia. The weapon is said to be powerful enough to decimate an armored tank. Police reportedly recovered brass knuckles and drug paraphernalia out of Garcia’s home. Garcia has been charged with criminal use of paraphernalia and criminal possession of a weapon. “It just goes to show there are a lot of weapons on the street,” said neighbor, Jermaine Britt. “You never know who your next-door neighbor is.” “That’s insane,” Alex Reyes, another neighbor said .”That’s crazy … I don’t know why something like that would be here at all.” It is not reported how Garcia came to be in possession of the rocket launcher or why he felt the need to own such a powerful weapon. Is there any feasible reason for a civilian to own high-powered weapons like rocket launchers and assault rifles or is it just out of control? [PIX 11]
