If you are a fan of AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead,’ you know that a character’s chances of making it through the entire season aren’t always the best. But if you’re anything like us, you have yelled at the screen and planned out how you would have easily survived the myriad of things that befell the other zombie fodder. Well, in celebration of its season premiere this Sunday, here are some survival tech tools that we would bring along if we were looking to survive this coming season.

iDawg

iDAWG

If you have paid attention to the previous seasons, people are always exploring, getting lost, or splitting up and going off by yourself is a death sentence. And even when they are together, communicating isn’t the group’s strong suit. To keep communication flowing, the iDawg, developed at Syracuse University, restores network services for cell phones and other devices by creating an ad-hoc network by utilizing the signals being to each other. A great item for a group that is constantly split up it would be great to reach out and touch someone.

G-Shock Rangeman

G-Shock-Rangeman

While running around avoiding zombies you might want to keep some sort of attachment to the way things used to be. But you can’t have things just for nostalgia’s sake it has to be functional. Enter the G-Shock Rangeman, the timepiece built for survival. The Rangeman has a sensor that tracks altitude, barometric pressure, temperature and direction. It runs on solar power. And being that it is a G-shock it can stand up from anything from a fall escaping a zombie to a full out zombie brawl.

Nikon 1 AW1

Nikon-1-AW1

This might not be an essential, but you might want to document the last days just in case the apocalypse isn’t so final. The Nikon 1 AW1 is just the camera to handle the rough lifestyle in zombie epidemic. It’s waterproof to 49 feet, freezeproof to 14 F and shockproof to 6.6 feet. This rugged camera also has built in GPS and can geotag images and comes with a durable outer housing that helps the camera survive a rough fall or it being wielded as a melee weapon. And you could have got some great pics of Andrea, Maggie, Lori, Amy, would have been some great trade collateral.

Eton FRX5 S

Etron-FRX5S

In the zombie apocalypse you are going to want things that are multi-functional as having a specific tool for everything means a lot of extra stuff to carry. The FRX5 S is a rugged, all-purpose, quad-powered, alert radio and the answer to a survivalist’s dreams. The FRX5 S allows you to stay patched in as it receives AM/FM signals as well as NOAA weather band and shortwave signals. It stays powered up via solar panel, hand crank, rechargeable lithium battery or three alkaline batteries. Did I mention it has an emergency beacon, an LED flashlight and can charge a smart phone?

Biolite CampStove

Biolite-CampStove

One of the most versatile tools in your arsenal will be fire as it can be used for cooking, warmth, purifying water, sending signals, and a number of other uses. Since I am sure most of us haven’t been practicing starting fires with sticks the BioLite Campstove System is the best option. The Biolite allows you to burn any biomass in its cylinder and it uses that as fuel to create heat to cook, warm, etc… and the excess energy created by the heat to generate electricity to charge electronics. The system also comes with a grill and KettlePot attachments that can be used by the stove.

AMC’s The Walking Dead mid-season premiere airs Sunday February 9 on AMC.
