The Brooklyn Nets just announced the hiring of recent NBA retiree Jason Kidd, and he now joins the club of NBA point guards who have become head coaches.
What better way to get a team going than to get one of their own as the head coach. Usually there is a protocol in which former players have to move up the ranks to land a head coaching gig, either it be an assistant job or taking their talents to TV as an analysts, it’s very rare a player who is recently retired (1 week retired) to land a job so quickly.
The point guard position is regarded as the position on the court as a head coach so it should be no surprise so many former NBA point guards have landed NBA coaching jobs. Lets take a look at other former PG’s who have become head coaches.
