We all know that the rich and powerful don’t go to jail. What we may not always realize is just how massively heinous some of their crimes are for which they receive no punishment. If you think Hollywood stars get the most preferential treatment by the justice system you are about to learn something.

The Dupont Heir

William H. Richards IV is an heir to the DuPont family fortune and has two children, a boy and a girl. In 2008 he pled guilty to raping his three year old daughter. He received no jail time. And, presumably, the fine he paid wasn’t enough to interrupt his recent purchase of a $1.8 million, 5,800 square foot mansion.

Police are now investigating allegations from his ex-wife that he also raped his toddler son. If your blood isn’t boiling yet, just you wait.

Owner Of The Indianapolis Colts

Jim Irsay was just out taking a drive one night when the cops pulled him over. They noticed that not only was he drunk, but he also had several prescription drugs in his car for which he had no prescription.

Police put him in jail for the night as per procedure, but he left in the morning and that’s probably all the jail he’ll see. Even though possession of those drugs carries multiple felony possession charges, lawyers are saying there’s a very low probability that Irsay will receive any jail time for their possession.

Affluenza

Ethan Couch was driving a car with seven people in it while alcohol and Valium were floating in his system. He lost control of the pickup truck and plowed into a group of people helping a woman whose car had stalled. Four people were killed, one was paralyzed and one other had severe internal injuries.

Couch, however, did no time because his doctor and lawyers convinced the judge that jail would do him no good. They argued that Couch’s ‘affluenza’ came as a result of his parents’ lack of adequate supervision. The judge agreed, put him on probation and the Couch family is settling out of court with the families that were affected.
