Campaign & Project Overview
v Our 4th annual Hip-Hop Against Gun & Gang Violence week initiative to end Gun & Gang Violence kicks off a 105-day campaign supported by 105 events with Power 105.1 Radio through our 7 E’s 4 Power Tour. This year we are supported by a Presidential Message from President Barack Obama along with Proclamations/Resolutions from NYS Governor Cuomo, the NYS Senate and Assembly, NYC Mayor de Blasio and Nassau CE Edward Mangano who recognize May 15-21, 2015 as “Hip-Hop Against Gun & Gang Violence” Week.
v The project’s mission is to teach students and young adults how to be proactive towards reducing gun and gang violence with a focus this year on Black on Black Crime and Police/Community Relations during the Memorial Day, 4th of July and the Labor Day holidays, which represent the unofficial start and end of a hot summer, a period when gun violence spikes.
v Thanks to NY SAFE, SNUG, Cure Violence and community groups addressing gun violence New York City is the Safest big city in the country and NYS has the 3rd lowest Gun Death Rate in the nation according to CDC data. We now will take this successful initiative throughout the U.S. and join it abroad with a message from the President of the United States and working with the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance, Power 105.1 and their parent company, Clear Channel Radio, the Source Magazine, “The Shark” Daymond John, from the ABC Emmy Award winning TV show, “Shark Tank” and the NYC Coding + Design Academy.

v Police/Community relations is at an all time low and with the influence of social media, the internet, smart phones, video and other new technologies, the “Civil Rights Revolution” of the 21st century is here to stay and these tools will force law enforcement agencies to change the way they do business.
v As long as the nation ducks the “Conversation on Race,” which the President suggested we have as a nation, Police shootings of minorities will continue to plague our communities. A recent report by the Justice Department of Michael Brown’s death and the conduct of the Ferguson Police Dept. has left many in a state of shock. Through this initiative we offer some “Groundbreaking Solutions” for the next generation to follow that has a track record of success and the potential to combat the problem nationwide. This is a special year as we celebrate the 150th anniversary of the ending of Slavery and the 50th anniversary of the March on Selma, which lead to the passing of the Voting Rights Act.

v This “Call to Action” is for youth, parents, celebrities, business and community leaders to Stand Up & Stomp Out Gun & Gang Violence, Black on Black Crime and improve Police and Community Relations. With the Message from the President and partnership with the “My Brother’s Keeper Alliance,” we have a unique and innovative platform to spearhead a concentrated effort to help those living in poor and disadvantaged communities nationwide. We will continue to work with the United Nations, El Salvador and other Latin Nations to address the rising global gang problem as well. If we don’t work fast we will see riots in the streets like never before compromising the safety, growth and development of the greatest country on earth. By joining the “Raptivism Movement” you will become part of the “Solution and not the Problem.”
v Activities offered during the week and throughout the summer will include the following: Community Ambassadors 4 Peace initiative; Rap 2 Bridge the Gap Summits; Time 2 Shine Talent Showcase; Solution 2 End Gun & Gang Violence Summits; films; gun buy-back programs; trips; Celebrity PSAs; prize give-a-ways; essay contests; sports, concerts and entertainment events. In addition, there will be activities surrounding re-entry preparation and criminal justice reform; employment, coding and web design; substance abuse and HIV/AIDS; voting, civic and social responsibility; cultural and spiritual enlightenment.

v 86 citizens die daily form firearms. 8 children and teens die daily by guns. 33,000 gangs with an estimated 1.4 million members commit 48% of the nation’s violent crime while Blacks & Hispanics are 96% of gun murders in New York City.
