“Weird Al” Yankovic, the master of musical parodies, performed on the Gotham Stage during Governor’s Ball.

He started off his set with an American classic called “Amish Paradise.” This track is a parody of Coolio’s “Gangsta’s Paradise.”  Yankovic clearly has a talent and ear for understanding lyrics. He played some of his most popular songs like “Inactive (Radioactive – Imagine Dragons),” “eBay (I Want It That Way—Backstreet Boys),” “Canadian Idiot (American Idiot—Green Day),” “White & Nerdy (Ridin’ Dirty –Chamillionaire),” and “Word Crimes (Blurred Lines – Robin Thicke).”  What was fun about this performance was everything.  From what he was saying to his many costume changes, Yankovic had the audience laughing and dancing, which is a weird combination but in this case it worked very well.  He ended his concert with a big bang and even after he left the stage, people were still chuckling and talking about what a great performance that was.

“It’s going to be a lot of the greatest hits, a lot of stuff from the last album. A few surprises here and there. It’s a very theatrical show. A ton of costume changes and film clips and video bits on a big LED screen. All with the same band I had since the beginning of time. It’s a rocking show. We try to give as much production value as we possibly can,” Weird Al said of his current world tour.
