Crenshaw Rapper Nipsey Hussle could not provide prescription for codeine found in a traffic stop
Usually art imitates life, but this week life seems to be imitating art, specifically in the world of Hip Hop as Diddy, Rick Ross and the incarcerated Bobby Shmurda have all had a brush with the law all in one week. Now, Cali superstar Nipsey Hussle has been arrested in Burbank on Wednesday night.
Police stopped the 29-year-old rapper, born Ermias Asghedom, on suspicion of traffic violations at 11:20 p.m., at Ford Street and Magnolia Boulevard in Burbank. Officers discovered he had an outstanding warrant for driving with a suspended license, Burbank police Lt. Adam Cornils said. After Hussle consented to a police search of his car, police found a bottle of codeine along with a cup of ice. Hussle was unable to provide a prescription for the drug and was therefore placed under arrest.
Hussle rose to stardom after his genius marketing strategy of selling a $100 album caught the attention of labels and executives. In 2013, he put 1,000 copies of his album Crenshaw up for sale at $100 each, with the clever hashtag #Proud2Pay. The idea was genius and the album sold out. Jay-Z was impressed with the bold strategy and bought 100 copies of his own. Hussle’s career skyrocketed and he continues to flourish as one of the West Coast’s best rappers out at present.
Nipsey has been released after posting a $1K bond.
