If you don’t have a record player in your house or your neighbor’s house, now you finally have an excuse to invest in a jukebox. The Kings of making Hip-Hop vinyl cool again, Get On Down, are back with a new series of 7″ records that they just released. The first installment includes Raekwon’s “Criminology” b/w “Glaciers of Ice” (20 years old this year), Mobb Deep’s “Shook Ones” (Pt.1 / Pt. 2) (commercial version of “Pt. II” is 20 years old this year), M.O.P.’s “Ante Up” b/w “Ante Up Remix with Busta Rhymes, Teflon and Remy Martin (Original version is 15 years old this year, Remix was 2001), and Ghostface Killah’s “Camay” b/w “Daytona 500.”

The co-founder of the company, Matt Welch, explains the inspiration behind starting the 10 record series:

Since I was a kid, I have always been intrigued by Jukeboxes. But when I was finally able to get my hands on one a couple years ago and started to fill it up, I realized that most of my favorite hip-hop records aren’t available on 45. So we decided to change that. The theme is pretty basic: classic hip-hop 12-inches that were never released on 45. There is also a shared aesthetic in that we felt that the choices we made were DJ favorites. Not necessarily radio hits, but songs that true hip-hop DJs around the world connect with. And regarding the sonics on these releases, all the audio was sourced from the master tapes of the original singles.

You can start your collection at their website. None of these songs have been released on 7″ records and will feature the original 12″ artwork. You now have the perfect comeback when your significant other argues that you need to get rid of your vinyl because “they take up too much space.”

For those who think ahead and plan on getting the whole set should purchase the binder set. That will include the four records above, on colored vinyl, as well as space for the rest of the series which will be completed by the end of the summer. Get On Down will sell one new 7″ for the next 6 months, on the second Friday of each month. For those who have purchased the binder set, you’ll be able to order the colored vinyl early via a private URL sent in an email.
