WHAT:
Joe Girardi, Helen Rosenthal and Mark Levine will join local advocates to promote the City’s FREE Summer Meals Program. Although school is out, FREE meals are available all summer long at hundreds of sites all over NYC including schools, parks, pools and libraries. To reward kids for participating in Summer Meals and eating healthy, a drawing will be held for Yankees game tickets and merchandise.
The City’s Free Summer Meals Program is available to all children and teens ages 18 and under, no registration or ID is required. Kids simply show up and receive a free, healthy meal. The program offers breakfast and lunch from June 27 through September 4, 2015, every week day, though some locations also offer meals on Saturdays and Sundays. Breakfast is served from 8:00 AM to 9:15 AM, and lunch is served from 11:00 AM to 1:15 PM.
WHEN:
Thursday, August 6, 2015
Noon – 1 pm
WHERE:
Lasker Pool

WHY:
Summer should be a carefree time for kids, but for thousands of NYC children the summer months are a time of stress and anxiety. As schools let out for summer vacation, the school meals many children rely on also come to an end. As a result, thousands of NYC children will be at risk of hunger and many families will struggle to keep enough food on the table.
Meals are provided by the Department of Education and made available at sites like schools, pools, parks, libraries and even mobile trucks ensuring kids have access to the nutrition they need to grow and thrive while school is out.
