NY Post reports that music icon Jay Z, has anonymously purchased a rare 1982 Jean-Michel Basquiat painting. The “Mecca” painting features the New York City buildings and at the top, “Empire” with the signature SAMO logo. The painting is worth around $4-6 million, but an anonymous buyer paid $4.5 million.

Jay Z has referenced the deceased Prince SAMO in many of his latest tracks. The accusations of Jay Z being the anonymous buyer came from the recent photo of him standing in front of a Basquiat painting with new Roc Nation artist, Jeezy. This would be perfect for his, “Empire State Of Mind.”
