T R A P S O U L is upon us ladies and gentlemen. With “cuffing season” all but here Bryson Tiller has set the mood for the salacious season, with his debut album. The aptly-named LP, touches on elements of traditional, as well as contemporary R&B and soul music, carried along by juxtaposing 808, trap production. The multi-textured album dropped yesterday, and Tiller linked up with Genius to provide some commentary on his crown jewel.

In his T R A P S O U L  annotations, Tiller talks about getting “that call” from Timbaland:

So, I was sitting in the movie theater, I forget which movie it was and Rich called me on the phone and was like, “Yo, Timbo wants to holla at you.” Tim was like, “Yo I like that song ‘Don’t,’ can you send it to me? What’s your email?”

He told me to come to Miami so we can work, he told me to quit my job. The rest is history.

He also talks landing a pair of super rare “OVO” Air Jordan 12’s from Drake himself:

40 invited me to the crib and I didn’t even think Drake would be there. It was around the Coachella time earlier this year and I figured he was working. I was like, I’m cool, I want to talk to 40, hoping he would give me some insight on the music industry. We were talking and next thing you know Drake walks in and I’m like, “Oh shit, that’s Drake.”

He was like, “Wassup man, blah, blah, blah” telling some story about Jordans. Then he was like, “What size are you?” I said, “10.” He was like, “Let me see what I got in my vault.” He came back in with like four boxes and he gave me one.

As well as getting kicked out of his home:

It was Section 8 shit. I had a full-time job and the reason I got a full-time job was because at UPS, I wasn’t getting enough money, so the bills were tight. I said, “I’m going to get full-time job to pay the bills and have a little money on the side.” But then when I got a full-time job they raised the rent. I’m like, “What the fuck? What’s the purpose of me getting full-time job?”

So I told my daughter’s grandmother to just take me off the lease and she was like, “I’ll take you off the lease, but you gotta go.” She could’ve took me off the lease and I could’ve just been living there on some low-key shit, but she was paranoid. She was like, “I could go to jail for 20 years.”
