James Harden believes he’s the epitome of the “Alpha Dog” in the NBA

As we gear up for the season and preseason kicks off, Houston Rockets swingman James Harden, had some choice words for fans and media alike who thought he wasn’t worthy of getting the 2014-15 season MVP trophy after leading his team to the Western Conference Finals.

According to Fran Blinebury of NBA.com, Harden stated:

“I am the best player in the league. I believe that. I thought I was last year, too. I know I was the MVP. That’s 100 percent given all the things that happened last season…. Credit the Golden State Warriors for an unbelievable year. They had an unbelievable team, coaching staff, everything. But that award means most valuable to your team. We finished second in the West, which nobody thought we were going to do at the beginning of the year even when everybody was healthy. We were near the top in having the most injuries. We won our division in a division where every single team made the playoffs. There’s so many factors. I led the league in total points scored, minutes played. Like I said, I’m not taking anything away from Steph, but I felt I deserved the Most Valuable Player.”

Now if we are talking about individual stats (27.4PPG, 5.7 REB, 1.9 STL, 7.0 AST and 44 FG%) then he brings up a very valid point. The 26-year old managed to bring a Houston Rockets team to the conference finals despite not having their defensive anchor in Dwight Howard for a month during the second half of the season. Now with Stephen Curry being the perennial league MVP and World Champion, by all means he deserved the title, but who’s to say James Harden didn’t deserve a second vote. The season is is arms reach and with James Harden vocally stating his case, it will be interesting to see if he lives up to the hype.
