The term “rapper” doesn’t mean the same thing that it used to. Likewise, the term “boy band” has evolved as well. You can thank BROCKHAMPTON for the latter. The group that’s larger than life originally started out as Alive Since Forever (ASF) with roots stemming from the Kanye West forum around 2010. They’ve since become “The All American Boy Band” with members Kevin Abstract, JOBA, Ameer Vann, Matt Champion, Dom McLennon, Rodney Tenor, and Merlyn Wood.
The Texas group recently won the VFILES LOUD! competition, premiered “Dirty” on Ebro’s Beats1 radio show, and released the single officially through Fool’s Gold. Not a bad year. The video follows Kevin Abstract from his car ride to the studio for, what else, than a photo shoot with the squad. They are after all a boy band. What makes “Dirty” such a stand out track is the progression of the beat to cater to each rapper, especially since there are several. Mixed with their almost Punk like attitude to give less than a f*ck, BROCKHAMPTON may be the voice of the current and future generations.
You can buy the single on iTunes now.
