Chrystal McCadden, the mother of a 7 year old student at Brownell STEM Academy, is furious as to why her son was handcuffed at school.
McCadden, who was contacted by phone to retrieve her child from school, was informed before she got there that her son was already being detained in handcuffs. According to a statement by the Flint Police Department to local television station WEYI,
“An officer was dispatched to Brownell STEM Academy in response to an urgent call for immediate assistance with a child who appeared intent on injuring himself, as well as repeatedly assaulting others.”
It has yet to be reported in what ways the boy was allegedly trying to injure himself and others.
McCadden says her son has ADHD, a condition that makes him hyperactive, but never violent. According to the WEYI report, when McCadden asked the arresting officer to uncuff her son, he allegedly told her that he didn’t have the key.
“You put my son in handcuffs and you don’t have the key? What sense does that make?” McCadden told WEYI.
The Flint PD is investigating the incident.
