When we first heard V’Don’s work with Bodega Bamz (he’s also worked with A$AP Rocky, Vado, Lloyd Banks, and others) we could tell that he had a knack for turning familiar sounds in Hip-Hop into updated versions for old heads and the young’ns alike to rock with. He’s about to release a 12 track project of his own, The Opiate, on 11/6 and we’ve got the latest “joint” exclusively here for you today.
The Harlem producer gets fellow uptown native A$AP Ant and Houston’s Trae Tha Truth to spit big boy raps about living the life they want to, not as they’re told. Ant warns those who claim to be pimping not to front when in reality they’re cuffing while Trae plays on the title of the track and threatens to have you lifted and a permanent truant in life. V’Don samples a soulful vocal and string sample, slowing it down to sizzurp speeds. It’s the official unofficial theme song to your late nights this week as you float above the clouds.
V’Don had this to say on the single’s creation:
“I was in the studio with my good friend A$AP Relli (who helped placed ‘Ghetto Symphony’ on A$AP Rocky’s album). He heard the beat for “Get Lifted,” and thought it would be a good idea to get Trae and A$AP Ant to collaborate, on some Houston x Harlem sh*t. Me and Trae have worked together for years, so I reached out. He heard the beat, laid his verse right away, and sent it back. A$AP Ant felt the track and thought a southern vibe would fit the track. I reached out to him and he laced it!”
You can pre-order the album on iTunes and stream “Get Lifted” on Spotify in the mean time. We’ve also included a trailer for The Opiate below.
