All things must come to an end, this time in LA
It’s been obvious, from the injury to the rough start in Los Angeles, the “comeback” season that was preconceived by every NBA and Kobe fan alive has been nothing less than a disaster. With the talk of the Kobe “Farewell Tour” beginning to ring true, Lakers coach Bryon Scott shared some words that make the thought of Kobe leaving even more of a reality.
According to ESPN’s Baxter Holmes, Bryon stated:
“That’s the first time that he hinted to me that this might be his last year,” Scott said Sunday before the Lakers faced the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.
Scott said he expects Bryant to start play both games of an upcoming back-to-back set Tuesday in Miami and then Wednesday in Orlando because, as Scott said, Bryant told him, ” ‘Coach, again, this might be my last year, so if possible, I would like to try to play every game.’ “Scott added, “I’m with him and we’ll see how it plays out.”
Now realistically speaking, this can very well be the last season we see Kobe playing on the hardwood. He’s 37 years old, he’s had a string of injuries and very few players have made it to see 20 seasons in the league, let alone a guard. Now to Kobe’s defense, he has been very hard on himself in a self-deprecating way but if we are being honest, this living legend will eventually figure it out. I think it’s time the Lakers organization look beyond the Kobe Era and invest more energy into the rookies they have locked in for the next couple years.
