A small cache of military weapons was found by a homeless man in a park near Yankee Stadium while digging for empty cans and recyclables earlier this month.

The 51 year old homeless man found a bag with the weapons in Mullaly Park near Yankee Stadium in the Bronx containing an M-4 rifle and two Sig Sauer M11 9-mm pistols. The man immediately contacted the police, even though the weapons weren’t reported stolen from the Lincoln Stoddard Center Armory Army Reserve in Worcester, MA until almost a week later.

FBI investigators later tracked down the suspect, 34-year-old Army reservist James Walker Morales of the Bronx, in Long Island and charged him with the theft after his DNA was gleaned from the armory. Morales was out on bail for raping a child when he broke into the armory.
