According to reports, the man and woman who carried out the horrific killings in San Bernardino, California yesterday were a couple who were parents to a six month old girl and could have possibly been engaged to be married.
28 year old Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik, 27, began shooting with military-style, semi-automatic weapons at a holiday party for one of Farook’s co-workers, killing 14 people and wounding 17 others in the deadliest shooting in the United States since the Sandy Hook school shooting in Newton, Connecticut three years ago.
San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan said that they have not ruled out terrorism as a motive.
Burguan says that Farook worked for the county health department as a social services worker and attended the workplace party, but returned with Malik dressed in military gear and began shooting the attendees. The couple also placed bombs at the party, but the police were able to diffuse them without incident.
Farook’s brother-in-law has went public to say that he has “absolutely no idea” why the U.S. born Farook would plan such a deadly tragedy.
With the recent shooting deaths at the Planned Parenthood in Colorado and the terrorist attacks in Paris, terorism and gun control has once again shot to the top of the list of priorities among global leaders.
