After it was reported that Tashfeen Malik, the 27 year old woman who helped her husband Syed Farook storm a party at his job and kill 14 people, had pledged allegiance to ISIS, the general public has been waiting to get a look at the mother who would commit such a murderous act.
A photo of Ms. Malik surfaced yesterday after it was discovered that the mother of a six month old girl had just been approved for a green card this summer after moving to the U.S. on a “fiance visa” last year. Farook and Malik, both Pakistani natives, met each other on a muslim dating website.
FBI Special Agent David Bowdich said today it’s also unclear who in the relationship led the other down the path of extremism that led to the death of 14 people and serious injuries to at least 20 others.
“I don’t know the answer, whether she influenced him or not. Being a husband myself, we’re all influenced to an extent. But I don’t know the answer.”
A report from George Washington University’s Center for Cyber and Homeland Security says that out of 71 people arrested in the U.S. since March 2014 with purported ties to ISIS, 10 of them were female.
