“New York City/welcome to Medina, the Mecca, the melting pot/you could be playing ball or selling rocks…” Cam’ron starts off the new single from The Knocks with a bit of spoken word, in the form of an open letter to his home, NYC. As the somber piano melody from The Knocks progresses into chords, Cam’ron resumes his usual cadence and details the ups and downs that occur every New York minute. From NYC themselves, The Knocks add just the right amount of percussion and a choir to create their own uplifting anthem for the Rotten Apple. It’s the type of song you can set as your alarm clock and you’ll hate the mornings a little bit less, once you open the shades to the five boroughs.
“New York City” will be on The Knocks’ upcoming album, 55 (2016). It will feature Cam’ron, Carly Rae Jepsen, Fetty Wap, Walk The Moon, Wyclef Jean, X Ambassadors, and others. You can purchase the single on iTunes. You can also peep their upcoming tour below and buy tickets HERE.
