U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents arrested a man yesterday that tried to smuggle Mexican imigrants across the United States/Mexico border in an SUV tha twas rigged to look like a border patrol vehicle.
A real border patrol agent noticed the suspicious looking vehicle near Laredo, Texas and followed the souped up Tahoe while contacting other border patrol agents.
After stopping the truck on Interstate I-35, the agents noticed that their were a dozen immigrants in the back of the vehicle as they approached the truck during the stop.
The driver was arrested, the immigrants were detained and the incident is still under investigation.
“Smugglers have resorted to desperate measures to conduct their illicit business,” said Mario Martinez, Chief of the Laredo Sector Border Patrol.
