This week, singer Lorde has been the center of controversy for a photo on social media of her and her boyfriend James Lowe.

While they look like an adorable couple to us and there is nothing out of the ordinary going on, many random internet haters have been spewing hurtful words about her boyfriend because he is not who they would “expect” for her to date. Lorde is dating a 24-year-old photographer of Asian descent. The LA Times has an awesome analysis of the situation.

Rapper Tyler The Creator took the picture of the couple and put it on his Instagram with the caption “Hhahahahahah”.

When she saw the caption on his Instagram, she quickly brushed it off by saying,

“Was this supposed to make me feel something?”

But in true Tyler The Creator form, he responded by saying,

“NOT AT ALL, IT MADE ME LAUGH.”

After the comments were made by Tyler The Creator, fans of the singing group of One Direction and Justin Bieber responded on social media after they heard a rumor that she called them “ugly,” and using racial slurs against him.
