Kim K. and her fiancée Kanye West quickly decided to sue YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley after he posted a video of their engagement on the Internet – now Mr. Hurley is fighting back.
Last month Kim Kardashian and Kanye West sued a co-founder of YouTube claiming he violated a confidentiality agreement by posting a video of the couple’s marriage proposal to his new video-sharing website.
The couple sued on the basis that Chad Hurley wasn’t invited to the elaborate October 21 proposal at San Francisco’s AT&T Park, but was allowed to stay because he signed an agreement not to post any video or images from the event.
But now the billionaire businessman who co-founded Youtube is fighting back and has issued a lawsuit counter-suing the newly engaged couple. Hurley claims that he wasn’t informed that he wasn’t allowed to film or distribute the footage which West did allow to be filmed (although by a professional crew) for a possible broadcast on E!, which is also home to his fiancée’s show Keeping Up With The Kardashian’s. The video was nearly 2 1/2 minutes long, but was blurry and taken from afar. It was uploaded to Hurley’s new business venture, Mixbit, an app that allows the user to record, edit, and publish videos right from your mobile device, then collaborate and remix videos uploaded by the MixBit community.
Although Kanye claimed Hurley was looking to capitalize off their engagement after failing to match YouTube’s success with other ventures, one could easily argue that Hurley (who made off with nearly $350 million after selling the video-sharing site) doesn’t need the potential capital generated in relation to this story.
