Last week, 16 year old Gynnya McMillen died while in custody in a Kentucky detention center and investigators are probing to find out why.

The only details that are clear at this point is that on the morning of January 11, 2016, McMillen was found unresponsive in her cell in the Lincoln Village Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Elizabethtown, Ky.

Hardin County Coroner William Lee Jr. said that the 16 year old likely had a heart condition and that when he first conducted an autopsy on the day after her death, he saw no signs of bruising that would point to foul play. Lee says that the full autopsy will not be available for weeks.

With very little media attention on the story, Gynnya’s family and friends have turned to social media to search for answers. Lee’s report notes that “on Jan. 15, a person claiming to be Gynnya’s sister created a Facebook page called “Justice for Gynnya McMillen”, where she calls for authorities to release information about the case, saying that “her autopsy shows no cause of death.”
