After a successful run at The Public Theater, Danai Gurira‘s Eclipsed has transferred to Broadway. Directed by Liesl Tommy, the show will begin previews on February 23, 2016.
Yesterday, Deadline announced La La Anthony would be joining the production team. This marks the mogul’s first foray into theater.
Anthony said:
I am so thrilled to be joining a production filled with such powerful, talented women … Eclipsed is a stunning new play that demands to be seen, and to make my Broadway debut as a producer with it is an honor! I’m especially excited to join the production’s efforts to bring thousands of young women to see the show through its 10,000 Girls campaign. What an extraordinary opportunity to pave the way for the next generation of commanding young women.
Eclipsed stars Lupita Nyong’o, Pascale Armand, Akosua Busia, Zainab Jah and Saycon Sengbloh. It’s the first time a Broadway show features an all female cast, director and playwright. It tells the story of five extraordinary women brought together by upheaval in their homeland of Liberia.
Additional producers on the show include Stephen Byrd, Alia Jones-Harvey, Paula Marie Black, Carole Shorenstein Hays, Kenny Ozoude, Michael Magers, Willette Klausner, Dominion Pictures, Emanon Productions, FG Productions, Scott and Molly Forstall and Marvet Britto.
La La can currently be seen in the newest season of the A&E drama Unforgettable as well as on the Starz original drama series Power.
