Apple has decided to a take an nontraditional approach to it’s upcoming release. Unlike previous years, in which the tech behemoth released it’s newest products in September, this year their next device will be released in March or April. It will also not be a predecessor to the iPhone 6 or 6S — but actually an older model, the iPhone 5S.
The iPhone 5S will reportedly be discontinued this winter, and replaced by the forthcoming iPhone5SE model. The phone will maintain its 4-inch interface but a will be revamped with a host of new features. Here’s what’ under the hood as per 9to5Mac:
- The chamfered, shiny edges have been replaced with curved glass like on the iPhone 6 and 6s lines
- The same 8 megapixel rear camera and 1.2 megapixel front camera systems from the iPhone 6
- Support for larger panoramas and autofocus for video recording
- Barometer for tracking elevation in the Health app
- An NFC chip for Apple Pay
- The A8 and M8 chips from the iPhone 6
- Bluetooth 4.2, VoLTE, and 802.11ac WiFi chips from the iPhone 6s
- Live Photos from the iPhone 6s
- Same Silver, Space Gray, Gold, & Rose Gold color options as the 6s line
The iPhone 5SE is also rumored to maintain the iPhone 5S’ current pricepoint.
