Community activist Constance Malcolm, others rally in the name of justice for Ramarley Graham
Even though a Bronx judge threw out the indictment against officer Richard Haste almost a month ago, those in the pursuit of justice for Ramarley Graham, who was killed in his bathroom in front of his grandmother and little brother by the NYPD, gathered at the slain teenager’s home on 229th Street in the Bronx on Thursday.
Due to the weather conditions, the original plan of marching to the 47th Precinct to protest the judge’s decision was modified and those who support justice for the Graham family were present and spoke out against this tragedy. Based on a technicality, the judge decided to toss the manslaughter indictment against Haste, who is seen on videotape during the incident in question armed and in aggressive pursuit of Graham.
Graham was killed as he attempted to flush a small amount of marijuana down the toilet as the police entered his home. He was unarmed.
The Graham family will be holding 14 bi-weekly marches, in reference to the 14 months that it took the district attorney to indict Haste. The first official march will take place on June 27th at 125th Street and Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard starting at 5 p.m.
