It’s a sad day to be an X-Men fan. While Hugh Jackman has made it a point as of late to say definitively, that his next outing as “Wolverine” in an X-Men film will be his last, it has been assumed that the character may appear depicted by another actor. Well, that’s not the case according to producers Bryan Singer and Simon Kinberg.

According to Digital Spy, they said:

I do think you would want to figure out how to tell more Wolverine stories. So either we would try to entice Hugh to come back and eat more chicken and work out for a few months, or we would have to figure out a creative way to move forward. Honestly, I can’t imagine anybody else playing the part, and there’s not too many characters I can say that for.

Jackman has been played the adamantium-boned brute since the first X-Men movie, back in 2000 and in six X-Men films that preceded it. The guy has pretty much become synonymous with the character, as far as live-action versions go, and if we’re honest we’d have trouble seeing anyone else take the claws reins from him. Let’s hope Singer’s plan lure’s him back to the role, which is “We back up the money truck to Hugh’s front door and beg really, really hard.”

There’s always hope that they take on the “Old Man Logan” story arc, but as of right now that’s just wishful thinking. Let’s just hope if the next film is indeed Jackman’s last go ’round, it’s one hell of a performance.
