The Pan African Film Festival (PAFF) was established in 1992 to promote cultural understanding among people of African descent. Each year, the PAFF screens over one hundred fifty films from all over the world.

Today [Thursday, February 4], the 24th installment of the revered festival will kick off with opening night film America Is Still The Place. Directed by Patrick Gilles, the film tells the story of a Black Korean war veteran and his family in 1971 post-civil rights San Francisco. The centerpiece film is Abby Ginzberg and Frank Dawson‘s documentary Agents Of Change. It tells the story of two important, lesser known civil rights demonstrations which took place at San Francisco State and Cornell University in 1968. The closing night film will be writer/director/star Don Cheadle’s brilliant Miles Ahead. He plays Miles Davis in a unique, jazzy, exhilarating chase dramedy. Ewan McGregor, Emayatzy Corinealdi and Keith Stanfield also star in it.
