FX‘s American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson debuted last Tuesday (Feb. 2) boasting a formidable 5.1 million viewers. With only one episode aired, critics have already began to rave about the show — receiving a 97% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes — but not everyone is pleased.
Cuba Gooding Jr. who plays dethroned former college football star, O.J. Simpson, in the series stopped by Bravo‘s Watch What Happens Live to discuss a range of topics from his good friend Tom Cruise‘s ageless face and kissing Beyoncé in The Fighting Temptations. Naturally the conversation touched on American Crime Story, after praising Gooding and the showrunners for the show’s factuality, host Andy Cohen asked if O.J. has seen it. Cuba replied:
He must be posted up at the payphone in jail, because everybody keeps giving a quote that he says… He said that ‘he hasn’t seen the show, but Cuba’s portrayal, I feel “indifferent.”
From that statement hard to tell if Simpson has only heard second-hand about Gooding’s performance, or if he has seen it and is simply….lying? Shocker. Perhaps ol’ Juice is just disappointed since he expressed interest in having Denzel Washington portray him and well TV shows aren’t really Denzel’s “thing”.
American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson airs Tuesdays at 10 pm EST on FX.
