Comedic actor Paul Rudd strikes me as a left-field choice to portray a hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but I guess we’ve been surprised before.

The comic book movie studio is reportedly in talks with Rudd to play the role of shrinking hero Ant-Man at the beginning of Phase Three of their Cinematic Universe following “The Avengers: Age of Ultron.”

We don’t know if he’s been officially cast yet, but if Marvel is willing to leak the fact that he’s being considered, it’s pretty difficult to assume otherwise. Director Edgar Wright is rumored to be bringing a more action/comedy vibe to this film a la this past summer’s “Iron Man 3,” and that marks Rudd as an interesting choice for Dr. Pym at worst.

I think it would be hard to imagine anyone looking good in that helmet, though.
