Parents of female students in a North Carolina high school became overnight protesters when their daughters were threatened with disciplinary action if they did not remove their geles, or African-style headwraps, that they had worn to school in commemoration of Black History Month. Several teen girls at The School for Creative Studies in Durham, North Carolina were told by administration to remove their headcoverings or wear them so that their hair is showing.
