The 90’s classic cop movie series, Lethal Weapon, is finding a new home on the small screen. Fox has ordered a pilot for the TV adaptation, after several years of talk about the movie’s small screen return. Showrunners have already cast “Roger Murtaugh” who was played by Donald Glover in the film, and he will be played by none other than Damon Wayans Sr. Mel Gibson‘s character, “Martin Riggs” has yet to be cast.
This will mark Wayans’ third role on a Fox series, following In Living Color and then his self-titled show, Damon.
The TV version of Lethal Weapon will mirror the film series, based on a synopsis Deadline provided:
When Texas cop and former Navy SEAL Riggs suffers the loss of his wife and baby, he moves to Los Angeles to start anew. There, he is partnered with LAPD detective Murtaugh (Wayans), who, having recently suffered a “minor” heart attack, must avoid stress in his life.
