Brian Knighton aka Axl Rotten died of an accidental drug overdose in a McDonald’s bathroom February 4, according to Baltimore authorities. Rotten is best known for his wrestling fame during the early to late 90s in Extreme Championship Wrestling. He was 44 years old.

He’d struggled with drug and alcohol addiction during his career and according to an online fundraising page, wrestling took so much of a toll on his back that doctors told him he needed two cervical spine surgeries or he might spend the rest of his days in a wheelchair.

Knighton was clean and sober for years following his diagnosis, however, it also says the campaign ended in August 2015 and it failed to raise any money.

His last Tweet was sent out the day he died, a reminder to everyone else about the way he lived.
