Prince has announced that the first North American date of his “Piano and a Microphone” tour will be Sunday, February 28 at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland.
The iconic singer/songwriter/producer/guitarist is set to play back-to-back shows at 7 and 10 p.m., revisiting some of his familiar and some unfamiliar classic hits as well as tracks from his 39th studio album, HITnRUN Phase II, in an intimate solo setting.
The tracklist for his recent Australian dates included Prince signature hits like “Let’s Go Crazy,” “Raspberry Beret,” “Controversy,” “Little Red Corvette” and covers of Sly & the Family Stone’s “Stand” and Joni Mitchell’s “A Case of You.”
At a stop at the Arts Center Playhouse in Melbourne, the 57-year-old singer dedicated his set to singer and actress Denise “Vanity” Matthews, his longtime protegee who died at a hospital in Fremont, California on Feb. 15, filling the show with songs and stories about Matthews.
