Back in 2003, UNIQLO launched its UT project, part of the retailer’s LifeWear imprint, embodying a “quest to enhance individual lifestyles by delivering quality clothing that is functional in design and versatile to wear.” The Creative Director for UT is BAPE founder NIGO, who announced KAWS as the upcoming collaborative partner for a new collection. UNIQLO has launched a new microsite in honor of the project.
Scheduled to arrive this spring, the collection will be highlighted by original artwork from the renowned Brooklyn artist, celebrating UT’s fusion of fashion with authentic pop culture.
UNIQLO is a well established Japanese brand that has gained a lot of support over the years. Built with simplicity and quality for longevity, their t-shirt designs that are the simplest hide the most thoughtful details, making them very timeless in appearance. With that being said, KAWS is also a protege. It only makes sense for the these two big names to come together and create something special. The results of their collaboration should be worth waiting for. Stay tuned for more details.
