After years of red tape, the controversial Nina Simone biopic starring Zoe Saldana, is slated for release in theaters and video-on-demand in April of this year. Additionally, the film got its first official poster, showing off Saldana’s look as the legendary Simone, and while there has not yet been a trailer release, with the release date so soon, there is bound to be one soon.
Along with the release date and poster, RLJ Entertainment has released this official synopsis of the movie as well:

Rediscovering the meaning of her life and work took courage, strength and one true friend: Clifton Henderson (David Oyelowo), the man who started out as her assistant and eventually became her loyal manager. With Clifton’s encouragement, the “high priestess of soul” began a courageous journey back to her music … and, eventually, herself.
