R&B crooner Keyshia Cole announced her brand new single “Best Friend” via Instagram last night. This track serves as her first independent single and also marks her journey as an independent artist including her partnership with EMPIRE Distribution. Her caption read:
“Decided to release the first single independent!!!! #BestFriend coming soon. This a very special record for me!!! And I have one of my favs mixing the record!!!! @JaycenJoshua #Family!!! Thanks Jay and also #Empire #Empire and I have decided to team up!!! I really hope u guys Fall in love with the record as much as I have.”
The track is produced by Amadeus and is expected to appear on her upcoming seventh album. She told Rap-Up in an interview of the follow-up to 2014’s Point of No Return, “I don’t know which direction I wanna go in. I don’t know if I want it to be more fun, I don’t know if I want it to be more heartfelt or if I want it upbeat, medium to slow. I’m just recording and recording and recording.” She also revealed that Prince was the person who actually inspired her to go independent. “The one time I did meet Prince, he told me he’d do a song with me if I go independent,” she said.
