That awkward moment when you were invited to partake in the biggest tournament of the season, but had to decline because it was a mistake.

The South Carolina Gamecocks received the “confused prom date treatment” and thought they had a sure ticket to the biggest event of the year, only to be denied access at the door. According to South Carolina Gamecocks athletic director Ray Tanner, the NCAA had contacted the SEC school discussing travel arrangements only to find out the phone call was error and wasn’t initially selected to participate in the 2016 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

The Gamecocks who finished the season 24-8, settled for making an appearance in the 2015 NIT Men’s Basketball Tournament. Instead, the NCAA have decided to choose Vanderbilt as one of the SEC schools to represent the conference in this year’s tournament. This can be used as perfect ammo to bring to the table for Coach Martin to motivate his team to become a large bid team come next March.
