On Thursday April 14, Fox announced a Deadpool sequel is in the works at CinemaCon 2016. Held at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, the annual convention is presented by The National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO).
CinemaCon typically hosts presentations to unveil upcoming films, premiere screenings and special events. Some of the biggest stars, producers and directors in Hollywood are found at the convention each year.
Fox co-chairman Stacey Snider said Ryan Reynolds and director Tim Miller are returning to their respective roles. Writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are drafting the script.
Deadpool was a mega-hit, earning over $750 million globally. It’s the highest grossing R-rated film in the world. The project also rejuvenated Reynolds’ career after recent projects like RIPD and Green Lantern faltered.
In addition to the exciting Deadpool news, Fox treated guests to footage screenings of the Ice Age sequel, X-Men: Apocalypse and Independence Day: Resurgence.
