On Friday [May 13], Universal announced road-trip comedy Girl Trip starring Regina Hall will be released on August 11, 2017. The film follows four lifelong friends traveling to New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival. The project will be directed by Malcolm D. Lee who is best known for The Best Man franchise. His most recent film Barbershop: The Next Cut is now playing.
When we spoke with Hall last month about her secret to being able to build such a diverse career portfolio she shared, “I’ve been very fortunate. I’ve had and still have a great team. I also think doing both comedy and drama helps. You know, being able to go back and forth has led to continuous work and just being fortunate enough to have been in movies that have been very successful. Then, with roles outside of that, I’ve kind of avoided type casting.”
Will Packer is producing the film with James Lopez. Yesterday, Deadline revealed that Packer will also be producing Adrian Lyne’s Silence, starring Michael Douglas and Halle Berry.
