Cannes Film Festival was abuzz on Friday [May 13] for all the wrong reasons. Legendary singer/songwriter Dionne Warwick hosted a press conference to announce a new biopic about her life. LeToya Luckett is confirmed to play Warwick in the film, but is it was Lady Gaga’s involvement that caused quite a stir.

Warwick and her producers said that Gaga would be playing the late British singer, Cilla Black. The story was picked up globally. Shortly after, Gaga and her team released a statement saying that she is not attached to Dionne at all.

“Lady Gaga is not attached and will not appear in this project,” Gaga’s publicists said in a statement. “Reports of Gaga starring in this project are false.”

Actor Danny Glover will play Warwick’s father Mansell and Oscar-winner Olympia Dukakis will play Marlene Dietrich. The biopic will cover the early part of Warwick’s career from 1962 to 1968.

Later in the day Dionne insisted that Gaga is going to star in the film despite her team denying it. She told Variety:

Actually, it’s just a little glitch … It will be corrected very soon, and everybody who retracted will have to retract again.
