Ciara and Future are currently embroiled in a custody dispute that has seen several legal twists and turns. Last year Ciara sued Future, her ex-fiancé, for libel and slander, pointing to the fact that he referred to her using the word “b*tch” on Twitter, and spoke about her in an ill manner during radio interviews. In the tweets in question, Future complained that Ciara was making him jump through hoops to see their son, which was one of the first times he publicly discussed the situation involving their custody issues. The Atlanta rapper then responded to Ciara’s lawsuit with a countersuit earlier this year in February, calling her last album, Jackie, a flop in an attempt to prove that his comments didn’t hinder her buzz in any way.

Today a major shift reportedly occurred in the court proceedings, as TMZ reports a judge sided with Future and against Ciara in her quest to secure sole custody of the former couple’s son, Zahir Wilburn, who turns 2 on Thursday. The report states that despite Ciara and her legal team’s efforts to discredit Future, the judge was “squarely on Future’s side;” Future and his team were requesting joint custody, which is a noted preference of the California court system.
