After spending a significant amount of the early year out of the spotlight, choosing instead to let his hit single “Panda” do the work for him, Desiigner has become a network TV and radio interview staple, as he gears towards his debut album. He’s also promoting a yet-to-be-released follow-up to “Panda,” which peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this month, unseating Rihanna‘s seemingly infallible “Work” in the process.
Little was known about Desiigner before he broke out of his press shell, other than the fact that his music and voice bore a startling resemblance to that of Future, and that for some reason, G.O.O.D. Music, specifically its two-headed leadership, Pusha T and Kanye West, had a very keen interest in the Brooklyn native.
What we know now, is that he has a penchant for very wild live performances, be them on stage or during an in-studio freestyle. We learned that on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, with Tim Westwood, and yesterday with Wendy Williams. Here’s another example. At right around the 7:50 mark, Desiigner approaches the mic following an interview with the UK’s Kiss FM, and dives right into a freestyle that’s so rapid, fully understanding even one of its lines will prove to be a daunting task.
