Last night at Irving Plaza in New York City, at least four people were shot–one has died–during a T.I. show before the Atlanta rapper hit the stage. Tip was scheduled to perform with Anderson Paak, Troy Ave–who was wounded by a gunshot–Uncle Murda, Maino and more during the show. At around 10 p.m. ET, shots began ringing out from the upstairs portion of the venue according to several accounts, including a member of our staff who was present, and the concert hall was immediately evacuated as NYPD and other authorities began to flood the scene.
This morning, hearts are heavy for the deceased, whose identity has not yet been confirmed. It’s still unclear what sparked the violence, and no suspects have been named by law enforcement, who will likely be working throughout the day to find those responsible.
TMZ has released video footage of the scene backstage immediately after shots began ringing out inside Irving Plaza. In the footage, you can see an inquisitive T.I. quickly canvas the scene, trying to discern his next move. When he looked out from backstage, he likely got a glimpse of what many have been seeing in video clips that have now gone viral on social media. Hundreds of concertgoers scrambling to find cover and exits, as the distinct sound of shouting and gunshots can be heard in the background.
