The developments are flying in today regarding the shooting at Irving Plaza during a T.I. concert last night. In the immediate aftermath, it we learned that one person was killed in the shooting, and several more were injured and rushed to medical centers at Bellevue and NYU. This morning, more details began to emerge. It appeared that Brooklyn rapper Troy Ave was injured in the shooting, and the person that was killed was a member of his BSB crew, Ronald McPhatter. In the last hour, shocking developments and reports began to allege that Troy Ave’s gunshot wound was self-inflicted, and that he himself was involved in the shooting that injured at least four people, including the deceased. A recently released NY Daily News report said that Ave had been arrested and charged at NYU Langone Medical Center. Just a few minutes ago, ABC released surveillance footage on Twitter of the shooting itself. The footage, which is rather clear, depicts a man that appears to be Troy Ave emerging from backstage at Irving Plaza, and firing several shots. Despite reports from several outlets that claim a dispute between Troy Ave and Maino’s crew led to the violence, Maino took to Instagram to dispel that notion.
For the last 5 years Troy Ave, his team and I have had a great working relationship. Not only have we performed and done several songs together but we’ve had many personal conversations about life our goals and efforts as musicians. Despite media reports to the contrary, there are No ‘ongoing beefs’ or ‘entourage issues.’ It always has been and always will be good relations between myself AND MY TEAM… Our deepest sympathies again to family of Ronald McPhatter and a speedy recovery to Troy Ave.
More updates on the way.
